The Philosophy of Liberty

Ken Schoolland

IDEOLOGY

 

​A self-regulating free market economy (primarily by voluntary consumer groups), including support of the right to keep and bear arms, opposition to drug prohibition, and elimination of the state-supported social welfare system and indeed all taxation for voluntary alternatives along lines of the Libertarian originated Alaska Permanent Fund.
Strong civil liberties including free speech, freedom of association, sexual freedom, and a foreign policy of free trade, non-interventionism, and opposition to the initiation of force (particularly military) to attain goals...

Tracy Ryan
Chair

Tracy Ryan has served as LPH Chair three times including 1999 to 2000, 2003 to 2007, and currently from June of 2013.  She was a 1996 candidate for Hawaii State Senate, garnishing 31% of the vote against an incumbent Democrat. She also ran for Governor in 2002 and was twice elected to the Makiki Neighborhood Board. 

In addition to her work with the Libertarian Party Tracy serves as Executive Director of Harm Reduction Hawaii. She has been an active supporter of Small Business Hawaii,  The Grassroot Institute, The Drug Policy Forum of Hawaii, The ACLU of Hawaii, Kulia Na Mamo,   Arresting Prostitutes is Legal Exploitation, the  Honolulu Tea Party, and many others.

Joe Kent
Secretary

Joe Kent was a Hawaii National Delegate for Ron Paul, and is now the chair of the Maui Libertarian Party.  He studies economics in his spare time, and is also the producer of The Maui Libertarian Show on Akaku public access.  He's also an avid writer.  Joe Kent was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii.  After attending Hilo High School, he attended the University of Hawaii at Hilo.  He went on to graduate from Minnesota State University with a degree in music education.  He taught high school choir for four years in Minnesota, but is now a music teacher at King Kamehameha III Elementary in Lahaina.

Gregory Arianoff
Big Island Chair

Gregory was born in Brussels and raised in Western Europe. After graduating from Belgium’s Cardinal Mercier Institute of Science, Gregory operated numerous bars and nightclubs on the Costa del Sol in Spain. The greatest highlight of Gregory’s teenage life was jumping on a train with his friends to help tear down the Berlin Wall.  This monumental life experience was what developed his profound appreciation for liberty.
 
Gregory, Kimberly and their two daughters reside in Waiakea Uka; living in the house where Kimberly was raised. His daughters are fifth generation residents of Hawai’i Island.

Feena Bonoan is a veteran, an artist, and she was the 2020 Libertarian candidate for Hawaii State Senate district 20. Feena graduated Lambda Pi Eta from Hawaii Pacific University 2020. She is the Director of Operations for the Hawaii Veteran's Cannabis Alliance and an award winning film maker.

Alan Yim

Alan Yim was born and raised on Oahu. A former US Marine, he has seen the disastrous impact of US foreign policy first hand. Currently a Business Economics major at Hawaii Pacific University, Alan seeks to spread the message of liberty and change the political landscape of Hawaii.

Li Zhao Schoolland is Director of External Relations—Asia Pacific for the Acton Institute and the Founder of TFT Events. She is an independent educator, writer, translator, and event organizer.

Mrs. Schoolland survived 26 years through the horrors of Mao’s regime in China. This motivated her to a lifetime of promoting freedom and liberty globally through the organization of Austrian economics and entrepreneurship conferences and summer camps over two decades in Eastern Europe, Asia/Pacific, and North Africa. She arranges translation and publication of libertarian literature in China and coaches parents in raising liberty-minded youth.

Michelle Tippens
Big Island At Large

Michelle served in the U.S. Army for over four years and is the current Executive Director and acting President of the Hawaii Veterans Cannabis Alliance. Michelle's primary goal in working with the HVCA is to reduce veteran suicide. Michelle currently lives on the Big Island and still enjoys visiting the west side beaches of Oahu to catch the waves.

Michelle is on the executive committee of the Libertarian Party of Hawaii and was a State Delegate to the National Convention in 2020.
